Particularly around the beginning of the new year I often return to the familiar but never out of date messages in the Serenity Prayer, the authorship of which is usually attributed to noted theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. In case you haven’t visited it lately, the shortened version is as follows:
God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
The appeal of this powerful prayer is universal, but it should have particular resonance for those of our body politic who would aspire to govern us.
Happy New Year!
Gregory Stachura says
If only those who would deign to govern had sufficient humility to supplicate themselves before God!
Martin says
AMEN!
Danny Billingsley says
Thanks Jim.
Ann McCulloch says
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10
Jim Windham says
A great reference, Ann, and thanks for your Christmas card.
