I’m not very good at evaluating political debates, but this one had all the earmarks of a disaster for Donald Trump. Several have suggested that the debate handlers should be fired. Good advice, but you can’t fire the candidate! And everybody who is anybody in the Trump camp has been warning him to leave the personal insults alone and emphasize the policy differences and “flips”. To no avail. He has no discipline and Harris completely baited him on every platitude she offerred and it worked every time. Granted, she had the benefit of moderaters on her side, but a good debater knows how to steer away.
This was the second and possibly last big opportunity to close the deal and he blew it both times. And given his performance here, I’m not sure another meeting would be to his benefit. Will this make a difference? Previosly I wrote that the election was his to lose. I still believe that, but his handlers team needs an overhaul, and so does he.
Gregory Stachura says
Jim,
Can we presume that “his handlers” can handle him? Though superior to Harris in almost every aspect, Trump lacks self-control when it is needed. His public persona is off-putting to many and his ego is on full display in most of his public appearances.
Alas, we have no statesman available to us in November.
Tim Richardson says
Jim, the Donald cannot go deep on issues cuz he doesn’t understand them.
“Drop Obamacare” and replace it with?
Trump’s “concept of a health care plan” with zero detail. “Use tariffs to create a roaring economy and that’s childcare.”
He knows he can’t go into detail cuz he’ll trip up on any policy.
He’s a climate change denier but is fine w more solar cuz Elon Musk wants it.
He’s an uninformed transactional idiot.
Larry Adams says
It is shocking that these are the candidates to lead our great nation into the future. Our world and nation have significant threats to all of us that require our best leadership from both parties. We have fallen short.
Reg Brockwell says
My prediction is that Trump will lose. There are more democrats than republicans and democrats vote for the party no matter how bad the candidate is. Independents and republicans are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.
Glenn Lee says
I was a fan of Donald Trump since the publication of his book “The Art of the Deal”. In my opinion his policies, while in office were right on point. However, it is time to move on. We need a strong conservative leader without the scars of the past.

COMMANDER IN CHIEF! — KAMALA HARRIS?
NUFF SAID!
Tim Phillips says
Does anyone here honestly know of an “undecided voter” in their family, or any professional or social network. It’s all theater. Trump is not a politician and is not beholden to anyone, and actually he doesn’t have a dead republican party vigorously campaigning for him. Just look here at home RINOs Cornyn/Hunt/Crenshaw/Abbott, and even if they do, there will be no coverage unless RNC buys airtime from uni-party deep state-controlled media, and outright censorship of social media platforms.
How to win? Vote as early and inconveniently as possible physically in a live polling place. Today, NOW, start encouraging everyone in your sphere of influence to do the same, and when we do vote take people with you, and then go to a public place for celebration wearing your “I voted today” sticker AND your Trump MAGA hat that’s been hidden away in your closet for the past 4 years. Be loud, be bold, be joyful and courageous and encourage everyone in the bar, restaurant, wherever you’re celebrating to do the same thing tomorrow with all their friends and families.
Remember the Alamo, Travis and our Texas heroes. What would they do? We’re at just such a moment. Should Trump fall short, then it’s time to gird our loins and start the Texas Secede movement in earnest, as we will be overrun by fellow Americans fleeing from Blue city/states seeking safe harbor, sanction and refuge.
Keep the faith and fighting the good fight. Cheers!
From the lawfare to actually taking a bullet, the deep state WILL NOT allow this man to regain the presidency, and as a result you see no yard signs, nor bumper stickers like the old days. The good news is that good people that pay taxes in feeding the beast are quietly preparing to vote en masse. However, this may be futile, as vote cheating structure that was put in place during the pandemic is still in place and been expanded. Plus, we’ve flooded the system (Cloward & Piven on steroids) with probably 15-20mm illegals. Do the math. RINOs have been complicit in both inaction on voting laws that could be done at the local/county/state level.
Be on guard and prepared as move closer to election day, the real polling numbers the deep state has and knows that the Trump wave is building with registered legitimate voters view this as a true tipping point for not just “democracy”, but more importantly preservation of our western civilization built upon judeo-christian principles, values, social mores, and culture. This also cuts across economic and generational strata lines. Don’t be surprised when the late October surprise will be aimed at the candidate, but the country with a catastrophic event that will necessitate the ‘postponement’ indefinitely of election day, or simply suspend altogether and only count early mail-ins, with a continuation of emergency presidency and ascension of current VP.
Debate is just kabuki theater to distract. Ramped up multi-media gas lighting will bombard the populace in psy-op conditioning leading up to election day. COVID was global, but it was the perfect test lab for US evaluation of suspension of rights and liberties which we willingly out of fear and confusion handed over.
David Merrill says
For what it’s worth: I don’t know any Democrats who would even momentarily consider voting for Mr Trump. I do know Republicans who are troubled by the prospect of voting for him. That puts them in the “undecided” column, I think. I would say that is a problem for the former president.
Tim Phillips says
David, only speaking truth in love, I know of 2 democrats alone that are true patriots and have put it all on the line. Tulsi Gabbert and RFK, Jr. Don’t get much more “D” than a Kennedy. Stop looking at dems as this giant monolithic block of robots. People are hurting from inflation and crime, and inflation is actually fueling crime especially theft. Majority of these folks are traditional dems. They know they’re getting conned by current admin/media when they can’t make the rent, buy groceries, or medicine. They’re not stupid, they’re desperate as they’re losing their businesses, houses, ranches and farms. Yes, Trump is a crass, brazen WYSIWYG, but you cannot deny he genuinely loves this country and knows we are accelerating in loosing something special in we all love, being America in the world. His record – great economy, high employment/wages, no neocon war, global stability, eradicating ISIS and terrorism while holding our allies to account and stopping the fleecing and shake down. Is he Reagan? Hell no! But, he’s the right man at the right time for the precipice we are approaching in less than 60 days.
The real danger is exactly the discussion and points of view being taken now. My friends, this is not a popularity contest, this is a tipping point election. Trump is probably one of the world’s greatest executives and negotiators, again proven by track record. BTW: he just upped his bet this morning by not taxing overtime wages – watch to see if the deep state puppet candidate will mimic and echo. This election is not about personalities and parties, it’s about economic systems – capitalism vs. communism and totalitarianism. Wake up! In the words of Malcolm X – “we’re all being bamboozled”. Everyone from unlikely patriots Tulsi Gabbert, Elon Musk, RFK, Jr., Vivek, etc. – they see the truth and taken bold action. Compare and contrast them to the patriotism of turncoat jaded and exposed neo-con RINOs for who they are – the war mongering clans of Cheney, McCain, Bush, swamp creatures all that would rather endorse and elect a candidate that has never received a single vote, and running mate that has made 30 documented trips to China while in office. All the dems are bought and paid for by the CCP in moving federal policy to their benefit and at the expense of our liberty. CCP is very shrewd and strategic – Why fight a kinetic war and destroy the assets they so desperately want and need to sustain their society and power while crippling ours. Stop whistling past the graveyard in remaining silent. The first non-violent coup in American history just took place before our eyes. Wake up!
Jim Windham says
Thanks for the wake-up, Tim. The country is in big trouble.
Stan says
Jim, I agree with your comments on Trump’s performance being a disaster. He did OK to good during first half; but, then stopped listening to the many key setups by Harris that could and should have been knocked out of the park. Instead, as soon as Harris threw out a bait at the end of each of her outrageous statements and lies, he forgot all that she said and took the bait. Then, as he became confused over Harris’ baits, he started making nutty statements. We tell children not to believe everything you read on the internet!
Trump suddenly appeared to be another old man who shouldn’t be President. Too, bad the RNC does not have the option to chance candidates. Even Niki Haley would have buried Harris!
Danny Billingsley says
Harris doesn’t know if she is afoot or horseback. Walz is a buffoon and most likely compromised by the CCP, along with Biden and others. Trump may be a bragger, egotistical and hardheaded, but in four years he helped the people of this country, and no one owns him. I am quite certain he would not let a Chinese spy ballon drift across North America unchallenged. It’s an easy common-sense decision for me.
