A resolution adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on July 23 tells you about all you need to know about the fecklessness of our allies, mainly those in Europe, and the worthlessness of the UN. By a vote of 29-1, with the U. S. being the only “no” vote and with 17 abstentions, including European nations, the Council’s resolution calls for the establishment of an international commission of inquiry to probe allegations that Israel has committed war crimes and violated international law in the defense of its homeland from attacks by Hamas originating from Gaza. In fact, it “condemns in the strongest terms” the conduct of this defense with no mention of the inhumane tactics of Hamas and scarcely a reference to its rocket attacks on Israel.
At least the U. S. stood with Israel on this vote, but not much else can be said in favor of Secretary of State Kerry’s shuttle diplomacy, which has emphasized immediate “cease fire” conditions equally applied to both sides over a sustainable resolution of hostilities that recognizes Israel’s unequivocal right to defend itself and destroy Hamas and its military capacity. This is not the level of moral clarity that is needed from U. S. leadership.
Anyone who wants to assign any level of moral equivalency to both sides in this conflict should “google” The Covenant of the Hamas and read a few pages of this 1988 covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement, also known as HAMAS. Here are a few tidbits:
**The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine.
**Palestine is an Islamic land. Since this is the case, the liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Moslem wherever he may be.
**In the face of the Jews’ usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised.
**Peace initiatives and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement……….There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad.
**The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them.
And this is a group with which we expect to conduct a “peace process”? When do we get serious? No victory, no peace.
I have had the honor of meeting Benjamin Netanyahu in person at a Hillsdale event some time ago. He is a far more mature statesman than our president could hope to be. The present administration foreign policy has collapsed on every front, without exception. Only a change in administrations will bring relief to our nation and her allies.
Does HAMAS = Hamas? Does Hamas share the ideology and goals of ALL those living in the West Bank and gaza? Are there Palestinians who just want peace? Would all this be taken care of if Hamas were obliterated and a peaceful, moderate Islamic democracy put in its place to govern the West Bank and Gaza?
